Rev Dave & the Burundi Mission
Recently I had the priviledge of meeting Rev Dave Beaman, a former 20 year New York City cop, turned minister. His story is unique, in that he's a catholic priest with wife and grown kids, who started his own church organization. He has a social networking site called WayFollowers. Rev Dave travels to Burundi in Africa to raise money to help the Batwa Pygmie people. These people live in small mud huts or burned out industrial buildings. Their only income is 5 cents a day working in rice fields, which have land mines. Many never come home after work, leaving the kids with NO parents. Children have little food, a shirt or pants and NO shoes. The UN provides schools, but the kids must have their own school supplies and a uniform to be allowed to attend. $12 per year will provide a child with uniform, school supplies and food so they can attend school. Here in the United States of America, we think we are bad off if we have NO 42 inch flat screen TV. The Batwa Pygmie people would love to have clothes, CLEAN water and a plastic tarp to cover their mud hut. An old manual sewing machine could help many families have clothes. A few bolts of fabric from Wal-Mart could give hope for the future. Want to know what you can do? Read more at the links below. |
